Artists for artists

With opportunities for artists to gain exposure becoming increasingly scarce, there is a pressing need to strengthen and diversify the creative communities of Acadiana. ARCHIVES, an innovative artist-run, artist-led organization spearheaded by co-founders Emma Sonnier and Lex R. Thomas, is carving a unique space as both a curator and coordinator of exhibitions for Louisiana-based artists, both emerging and established.

Rooted in the belief that art is not merely a product but an ongoing dialogue, ARCHIVES is dedicated to providing a platform where artists can thrive, connect, and freely express themselves—beyond the traditional confines of galleries and museums.

At its core, ARCHIVES champions Louisiana's diverse artistic voices. By fostering an environment of unrestricted creativity, the organization encourages artists to explore taboo topics, confront unconventional ideas, and spark meaningful conversations about the complex realities of modern life. Through its artist-centered exhibitions, ARCHIVES seeks to amplify the voices that shape Louisiana's cultural and artistic identity.

Artists are invited to dissect, deconstruct, and reimagine the various systems that govern our lives,

from the personal to the political,

the societal to the ecological,

the relationships between and within art,

the weaving of distinct elements into a cohesive whole,

frameworks,

networks.

Through its artist-run, artist-led initiatives, ARCHIVES aims not only to reshape the narrative of Louisiana's contemporary art scene but to build a community where creativity remains uncensored and unbound.
