Our Mission

At its core, ARCHIVES is driven by a singular mission: to empower Southern artists and reinvigorate Louisiana’s arts landscape. We recognize the challenges that artists face in achieving visibility, securing mentorship, and earning fair compensation. Our commitment is to break down these barriers by offering comprehensive opportunities that not only amplify artistic voices but also cultivate a robust and reliable network of creative professionals.

ARCHIVES stands as a vital support system for artists at all stages of their careers—from emerging talent to established professionals. We provide platforms for Southern artists to gain increased visibility in both local and national art scenes. Our exhibitions, programs, and initiatives serve as stages for artists to showcase their work and connect with diverse audiences, all while fostering long-term relationships with peers, mentors, and industry leaders.

Empowering Southern Artists

We believe in the transformative power of art, both for individuals and for communities. Southern artists, in particular, possess unique perspectives shaped by the rich culture, history, and complexities of our region. ARCHIVES is here to ensure these voices are heard, celebrated, and supported. By creating opportunities for both visibility and mentorship, we offer artists the tools they need to grow, thrive, and elevate their practice to the next level.

We understand that visibility alone is not enough to sustain an artist's career. Through our robust mentorship programs, we connect artists with seasoned professionals who provide guidance, feedback, and invaluable industry insight. Our mentors help artists hone their craft, navigate challenges, and make informed decisions to propel their careers forward. These mentorship relationships are designed to be ongoing, not just transactional, ensuring that Southern artists have long-term support from individuals who have walked similar paths.

Equitable Compensation for Artists

At ARCHIVES, we understand that fair compensation is a critical component of sustaining an artist’s career. While we are not yet in a position to provide direct financial compensation for all of our programs, we are committed to making our initiatives as accessible as possible. Our first step in this direction is offering all workshops and events on a donation-based attendance model. This approach encourages participation from artists who may not otherwise be able to afford these opportunities, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent anyone from attending, learning, and growing within the creative community.

In addition, we are committed to never placing the burden of sustaining our operations on the artist themselves. We will never take a cut of sales from artists’ work. Instead, we focus on creating a space where artists can retain full ownership and benefit directly from their sales. Furthermore, we offer a variety of free exhibition opportunities that provide artists with platforms to showcase their work without the pressure of costly participation fees.

By focusing on accessibility, support, and a community-driven approach, we aim to provide artists with valuable opportunities while ensuring they have the freedom and resources to thrive without financial strain.

Cultivating a Reliable Network of Creative Professionals

At ARCHIVES, we view the arts as a collaborative field that thrives on connection and community. Our work is not limited to just providing exposure or financial support; we strive to create a reliable, inclusive network of creative professionals who can rely on one another for support, collaboration, and shared growth. By facilitating partnerships and collaborations among artists, curators, collectors, educators, and industry experts, ARCHIVES strengthens the entire creative ecosystem of Louisiana.

We believe that a strong, interconnected community of artists and creative professionals leads to more diverse, innovative, and impactful work. As part of our commitment to fostering this community, we work with local organizations, businesses, and cultural institutions to ensure that artists have access to resources that will further their careers and contribute to the region’s economic vitality.

Rejuvenating Louisiana’s Arts Sector

Our work is not just about supporting individual artists; it’s about rejuvenating Louisiana’s arts sector as a whole. We aim to create a thriving, sustainable arts ecosystem where creative professionals are given the tools, opportunities, and respect they deserve. By supporting the economic and cultural vitality of our region, we are contributing to the long-term growth and success of Louisiana’s arts scene.

ARCHIVES is dedicated to creating a space where Southern artists can sustain their livelihoods, thrive in their artistic practices, and have a lasting impact on the cultural fabric of Louisiana. We understand that the arts are not only a source of personal fulfillment for artists but also a vital part of the state’s economy and identity. By empowering artists and building a stronger, more equitable creative community, we are ensuring that Louisiana’s arts sector continues to flourish for generations to come.
