Shelbi Zaruba
Multidisciplinary Artist
Shelbi Zaruba is a multi-disciplinary artist born in Houston, Texas, and raised in the small town of Springhill, Louisiana. She is currently pursuing a degree in Art Education with a minor in Environmental Sciences at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Her work explores themes of identity, perfectionism, and healing, often shaped by her experience growing up in a close-knit community with traditional values and high expectations. As a lifelong “golden child,” Shelbi uses her artistic practice as a means of challenging those internalized pressures and reclaiming her own narrative. Drawing inspiration from the world around her, including the perspectives of other artists, evolving family dynamics, and societal views on women, Shelbi uses these influences to spark introspection and creative exploration. Each piece serves as a space for vulnerability, transformation, and truth-telling. Shelbi’s art invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences with identity, pressure, and self-discovery. To embrace the imperfect, evolving process of growth.
